RockyMounts was created with an ideology - when you absolutely, positively can’t ride it there; we’ve got you covered. It has guided the business since our founding in 1993 and every day since. We make solid, well designed, and dependable racks to get you to the next ride, destination, or big adventure.
Bobby Noyes started RockyMounts in 1993 while working at a friend’s bike shop in Boulder, Colorado. At the shop he quickly garnered a reputation for being the “rack guy” and saw a need for a better bike rack with cross compatibility, racks that could work on both round and square bars. He took this idea and wandered around the engineering building at CU until finding an open door. An interested professor connected him with an engineering Master’s student and helped make this idea into a reality. The first RockyMounts racks were made with material sourced from within the US; plastic from Boulder, trays from Indiana, paint from Lyons, packaging from Denver, and a local garage for space to assemble the racks by hand. The racks sold out of the back of Bobby’s truck, becoming a huge hit locally and quickly spread across the US. Starting a rack company wasn’t exactly what Bobby had planned but he saw how the racks connected the cycling community.
As RockyMounts grew we were able to help grow the community too; HQ offered a third space for events and fundraisers. It was an opportunity for RockyMounts to support the community that supported us. RockyMounts has moved 3 times, had a few different employee families, and only a few constants. Yet, continue to be focused on the same thing we’ve been striving for; making solid, well thought out, and dependable racks to give you peace of mind when you absolutely, positively can’t ride it there.
RockyMounts is a Colorado company and we love to call it home. It is a place that makes you appreciate where you’ve been and where you might go. Relocating to Grand Junction and the Western Slope has given us a little more elbow room and new backyard trails. We’re stoked to be here and invite you to drop in; we’d love to hear about your next adventure and share some of ours.
